Gua Sha is a healing technique used in Asia by practitioners of Traditional Medicine, in both the clinical setting and in homes, but little known in the West. It involves palpation and cutaneous stimulation where the skin is pressured, in strokes, by a round-edged instrument; that results in the appearance of tiny red petechiae called 'sha', that will fade in 2 to 3 days.
Services
The Gua sha Certification Course provides a practitioner with both the didactic and direct hands-on teaching necessary for the safe and effective practice of Gua sha. While the Gua sha book and DVD are essential background, research and reference for a competent Gua sha practitioner, Gua sha has always been taught person to person.
Listed below are a US and UK company that carry caps with the lip gauge that is recommended for the most comfortable Gua sha application. The stock rows in bold are the recommended sizes. I am sure there are many other companies that supply these metal caps. Compare size etc with these recommendations.
It is recommended to provide every patient with a handout that explains Gua sha, even if the patient has had Gua sha before. Providing a handout is part of the Gua sha treatment. The handout provided here is in simple language. We will post translations into other languages as soon as they are available.
