To be considered a primary care patient, you must have an annual physical exam with Dr. Dickey. I recently moved to Austin from Atlanta. Doctor Dickey Holistic Family Practice is close to where my new job is over in Austin. I called to schedule a new patient appointment. The secretary said I sounded black and they dont accept black patients and hung up. Doctor Dickey Holistic Family Medicine is not in the Green book. Read my review and go to a doctor who accepts all who need care. Avoid

Been going there for years. Then yesterday I reached out to make an appointment and Hazel called me up and said that they'd made a decision that "wasn't political" and that they are no longer working with any patients who are not fully vaccinated. When I mentioned that I had gotten over Covid about 2 weeks ago, Hazel who isn't a medical doctor, told me that I really don't have any natural immunity and that I still needed a vaccine to be seen.

Now correct me if I am wrong. Isn't the #1 oath of every doctor, is to, "do no harm"? Well denying a patient for this seems pretty harmful. Additionally, When someone says it isn't political, actually means that it is. Thank you for opening my eyes to your decision to discriminate against your long term patients and I will make it a point to let those we know far and wide where you stand. so that one day there isn't a completely new reason why you won't be able to see them either.

I went to Dr. Dickey years ago for multiple, inexplicable symptoms, and he was the first doctor who was able to diagnose my autoimmune thyroid disease. Supplemental thyroid medication was all I needed, and I went to him for a long time, for regular follow-up visits and labs. THEN, one day when i showed up for an appointment, he told me I should stop "acting like I was young." He was dead serious. and lectured me about how I was getting old, and should act my age. Excuse me? Is that related to my thyroid disease, or ANY disease?

It became apparent that my normal, everyday personality didn't meet with his approval, so I didn't feel comfortable seeing him any more, and never went back. I found another capable doctor to treat my condition without disapproving of me as a person.

Dr. Dickey is priceless in his medical and holistic approach to my health. He is an excellent listener and truly works to find answers to problems through his wide knowledge in both these fields. His caring approach is rare in today's fast-paced medical world. A visit with him is good for one's mental, emotional and physical health. From the first visit, I felt like I was talking to an old friend, who happens to be an excellent doctor.

All of our adult children have become Dr. Dickey's patients and love him. I realize you meet a Dr. like this once in a lifetime, if you are lucky. And then there is his wonderful wife Hazel, who is truly an asset to his practice. I always leave with hope and inspiration; what a pair!

This practice changed my health's trajectory in a significant way. Before visiting Dr. Dickey the first time, in Fall 2012, I decided I would avoid pharmaceuticals. In the appointment, he did not push pharmaceuticals or anything really. Some prescriptions were foods to eat or natural supplements to take. I saw Dr. Dickey for the next four years.

In a month of working out his supplements strategy for me, I measurably healed the majority of my symptoms. Dr. Dickey is focused on identifying the root cause and resolving that so his patients can avoid being dependent on anything. He is very skilled at naturally treating/healing hormones.

Best Doctor I have had the past 50+ years of my life. Dr Dickey and Hazel really know how to make the healthcare experience one of trust, genuine kindness and above all peace of mind.

Best doctor in Austin hands down. Seriously. you get what you pay for in this world. If more doctors were like Dr. Dickey and his wife the world would be a MUCH better place. Dr. Dickey and his wife focus on overall health and quality of life as a part of their medical practice. In contrast most other Doctors offices are like factories and the quality of service and personal touches are what suffer as a result. Coming from Boston and moving here was a huge shock to our family medically in terms of competence and quality of care (at other places). Thank you for making us feel at home and providing us with the quality of care you did. Your office is amazing.

This is the best doctor, hands down, that my family and I have ever been to. He helped save my father's life by identifying issues which were very perplexing and had been plaguing my father for years. His family are wonderful, especially his wife, who runs the office and I recommend you not take your business anywhere else if you want to be in good hands. Dr. Dickey will really listen to you and take into account what you feel is the issue and has a great system for blending western medicine with holistic to treat any illness or disease. He is a supplement and thyroid master!

Dr. Dickey is the best! Been going to see him now for many years and can't say enough good things about him. They don't take insurance but what they do instead is sit down and actually goes over the issues and best way to resolve them. It's a hybrid east west medicine treatment. If your issue can be resolved using eastern style medicine then he will suggest it, some cases that's not possible.

If your top priorities are for a doctor to fall under your health insurance and just be prescribed pills and not actively wanting to solve the real health issues then skip seeing Dr. Dickey. I highly recommend for everyone else to see him ASAP with any health issues.

I've taken my first son to see Dr. Dickey for his physicals. I didn't mind paying his fees because it was still cheaper that the cost of a health insurance premium. If you're in good health, this is a wonderful option! He's incredibly thorough, gives you his opinions, but is very non judgemental if you choose to do something different.

We actually chose to vaccinate our children because of him. I highly value what he has to say. I purchased health insurance because of the mandate and took my second son to a different physician because we had insurance, so why not? My son wound up having a pretty complex medical issue that required open heart surgery. Before taking the advice of our new pediatrician I gave Dr. Dickey a call (I highly respect him and his opinions.) to ask him for his advice.

I left a message with Hazel- his wonderful and very helpful wife- and he called me back that same day. He took the time to listen and give me his advice. No questions asked, no fees, just an honest doctor giving you his honest advice. I still take my first son to see him for physicals and will eventually take my second son too. We no longer reside in Austin, but once a year we will make the trek to Dr. Dickey's office for physicals and check ups- we like him THAT MUCH! I'm very grateful for physicians like him. He obviously enjoys what he does.

Dr. Dickey and his wife are amazing. Nice, caring, very smart, and always responsive to my needs. I highly recommend them! And Dr. Dickey has an MD and is an ND so he knows both sides of medicine. Plus, he got his MD at UT! Hookem!

To put it bluntly, Dr. Dickey saved my life. I battled undiagnosed conditions for years. I saw over 20 different doctors of every specialty you can think of. I am so glad I gave Dr. Dickey a chance. I was hesitant at first because they do not take insurance, but he's worth every penny and much, much more. He stayed true to his word of "never giving up on me" and today I am feeling much better than I have in 3+ years. Dr. Dickey is open to trying anything.

I would do hours upon hours of searching for solutions online and go in to present my findings and new ideas to him. He would then provide feedback and add his thoughts and we would develop a treatment plan from there. He is one of the smartest people I've ever met and seems to have an in depth understanding of anything medical related. Finally we have found a treatment plan that is working for me. Dr. Dickey is one of the good guys. He's not in it for the money and genuinely cares about helping people.

I will be going to Dr. Dickey for any medical issues from here on out. He doesn't hesitate to refer to other doctors or specialist if they may be more suitable to help with certain issues. I would be amiss not to mention his lovely wife Hazel who is charge of managing the office. She is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. They make a great team. Thank you both for everything you have done!

Although I am a fairly new patient of Dr. Dickey's, I have been totally impressed with the treatment I have received from him. He goes above and beyond responding to questions and working out a solution to your concerns. I love the way he combines holistic with traditional medicine when coming up with that solution. The first appt. with him consisted of 90 minutes of him actually getting familiar with your history instead of the traditional five minutes with a doctor where they pull out a prescription pad for whatever ails you trying to mask and treat the symptoms instead of working on the root cause. I appreciate the way he treats his patients and whole heartedly would recommend him to others!

Dr. Dickey and his wife, Hazel are so great! I was in need of a caring Doctor, and Hazel heard me over phone as it being an emergency, and got me right in. Dr. Dickey is well connected to the best specialists in Austin or for that matter, anywhere in the States, I have lived. After he got me stable, he put me in Dr. Swenson's, GYN Doctor, hands so fast, the whole process was done quickly and expertly.

He sees you as the whole person, so his expertise with Holistic can also be of great service. I highly recommend this doctor. Very happy. Oh, and it feels like a home office, not a stuffy DR. office.;

I've been a happy patient of Dr. Dickey's for 4+ years. I no longer live in Austin, but I'm still his patient because I haven't found a local doc that provides Dr. Dickey's thorough, thoughtful care. A typical appointment can last up to an hour, depending on what issues you're there for and the doc never makes you feel rushed (as did every other Dr. I've ever been to).

The office is homey, tidy and has a relaxing vibe. The doc and Hazel have helped me with health issues that occurred outside their office hours and when I was traveling abroad. I find it hilarious that some reviewers were put off by Dr. Dickey's laid back demeanor and casual clothes because he's the prototypical Austin guy in shorts, flip flops and a guayabera--which I find quite refreshing after a lifetime of seeing patriarchal weirdo docs in white coats and bad "business casual." Despite his casualness, he's a no-nonsense physician who cares about his patients and stays abreast of medical science in both the world of Western and holistic medicine.

Hazel and the Doc are like family to my husband and me. What other doctor will answer the phone personally at any time of the day or night? My husband has several health issues and Dr. Dickey is always responsive and offers several options of varying degrees of affordability and practicality. He is absolutely no nonsense in his opinions. One of the amazing things about the practice and perhaps one that is overlooked is the diversity of people who walk through the door.

There is not a waiting room full of people, but there are always interesting people there. I hope they keep on keeping on and ignore some of these reviews on Yelp. Sometimes, we Yelpers are just Yelpers. :

I spent an hour with him while he typed non-sense on his laptop, answering questions that I didn't ask nor want the answer to. At the end of my hour, he gave me a two page questionnaire to take home and fill out. Once I compete this questionnaire, I can go back for another visit so he can reveal what my issues are. What? Shouldn't we have done this during my hour that I just spent in his office that cost me $240?

His big sales pitch is that you can call him at any time for any questions. I just spent an hour with him and walked away with a questionnaire that I should complete and bring back to him so I can spend another $240. Yes, his wife made me a cup of tea. She told me stories with her Scottish accent. She talked my ear off when I really needed to get out of there. This guy is a quack. Not sure who is giving him all these great reviews, but I would not waste my time and money with him. Seriously a quack.

I didn't realize how good a family practice can be until I found out that my wife's health insurance had lapsed. She had some acute kidney pain, and needed to see a doc immediately. Starting to panic, I found Holistic Family Medicine on yelp. This visit was undoubtedly the most pleasant hospital experience I've ever had! Dr. Dickey and Hazel are just very good and happy people, and this vibe gets passed on to their patients as well.

I paid less than I would have with insurance, and got amazing service. Hazel was so nice to even print out directions to the cheapest pharmacy in the city, all while juggling with numerous activities at the front desk. Getting sucked into the system, some of us don't realize that there is a really pleasant world in health care out there, where you don't have to share sensitive, personal information with the government, while geting ripped off. More businesses like Holistic Family Medicine is truly what our society needs!

Wonderful warm and personal service. This office treats me as family. Dr. Dickey also tries to advise in favor or over the counter medicine instead of higher priced prescriptions. Been seeing him for more than three years with digestion problems that affect my sleep and I think he has helped ease the problem. I recommend this doctor as a human being who cares about whom he sees.

Dr. Dickey offers a great approach to health and wellness. He combines alternative and traditional treatments (when necessary) and he doesn't over complicate things as many doctors do. My only "negative" remark, and it isn't a big issue at all, is he is very busy because he is so good. As a health care professional myself, he is someone I would highly recommend.

I never have felt completely comfortable jumping up on a table and putting my feet in stirrups until I met Dr. Dickey. On my last visit, he greeted me warmly wearing cargo shorts and a Hawaiian print shirt. That's the way to put a girl at ease, treat her like she's attending a luau. Hazel, Dr. D's precious wife, never fails to offer me a comforting cup of tea. Sipping tea while listening to Hazel tell stories in her native Scottish accent; waiting for her husband to check out certain body parts, well, you get the picture.it's like family. Dr. Dickey is compassionate, direct, open and spends quality time with each of his patients.

He can multi-task, too! He holds an in-depth conversation with a patient while typing his recommendations on his laptop so that each patient receives a written "plan of action". Dr. D is board certified in Family Practice medicine but has also studied alternative medicine and has been greatly influenced by Dr. Andrew Weil. Good health through diet modifications, exercise and a healthy lifestyle are cornerstones of his practice.

Still have to say that Dr. Dickey is doing an amazing job as my doc. He's always been available to talk to me by phone if I've had a health issue (not just an emergency). I like the fact that he doesn't allow drug sales reps in his office - his practice isn't centered around selling meds but trying to find a solution that may not need the expense and side effects of them.

Dr. Dickey is aaaa.mazing. After going through years of pain, I didn't expect he would be able to pinpoint and fix the cause of my illness in under an hour, but he proved me wrong. For several months preceding my visit, I was only able to eat a couple spoonfulls of anything before I felt violently ill.after my visit, I celebrated by eating to my heart's content at Chuy's. Yum.

This is a doctor who is extremely intelligent and caring. Your money is well spent here. P.S. If you do wind up visiting you'll meet Hazel, who (wo)mans the front desk. Unless you have something against hilarious and adorable Scottish women, you will love her.

Dr. Dickey and his staff are as good as it gets. He combines a solid medical background with vitamins/supplements and acknowledges all medical issues, not just the ones insurance companies tell him to. Environmental toxins, adrenal stress, hormone imbalance, etc are all considered. For years I have M.D.s tell me that adrenals are not "a science, " code for they can not make $$. Dr. Dickey ordered the proper tests, diagnosed a cortisol imbalance, prescribed a treatment that took into account my overall health and I am now on the road to recovery.

His office is very homey, he gives you his home phone number and is available 24/7! Everyone is very friendly and you are not treated like a number in the waiting room. He is out of network, but health is important and I have saved money in the long run by finally getting a doctor who not only cares but knows how to treat the human, not the symptom.
