Shen-Men Acupuncture & Herb The times they are changing, and so is Shen Men. After 20 years of providing acupuncture services, I have redirected my focus to helping children who experience learning, behavior, and socialization challenges. I have developed three exciting programs that work to support children's foundational capacities, and help them feel more at ease and resilient in our world.

All of these offerings are informed by Rudolf Steiner's understanding of how to nurture health and development. Shen Men has become Shen Men / Spirit Gate, and this new site presents information for the following programs: Foundational Fun Summer, Fourth Grade After-School Program, and First Grade Support Program.

We are much more than just a physical body, we reflect and interact with the world both within and outside our physical form. Our understanding is deepened the more we penetrate this knowledge. The practice of education is an art - at the heart of this endeavor is the connection between people. The character Men refers to a gate, it can be thought of a reference to acupuncture points in general. According to ancient Chinese thought, our health and well-being depend on the harmonious dwelling of the "spirits" (shen) in the heart.
Foundational Fun Summer is a day camp that is designed to help children become more comfortable in their bodies and at ease in their learning. This program uses a variety of modalities that complement Waldorf Education. Children will engage in activities that involve movement and visual arts through age-appropriate games and stories.
Designed for a small group of fourth-grade students, this program offers a variety of activities chosen to help children work with the capacities for touch, balance, and movement. Key benefits of the program include building self-confidence, mastering fears, forming friendships, and being out in nature.
ShenMen / Spirit gate offers a variety of therapies. Each therapy works to re-enliven the health-giving processes within us, helping to bring warmth and organization where needed. Oftentimes therapies are combined to support outcomes. Extra Lesson, developed by Waldorf Teacher Audrey McAllen, is a program that consists of movement, drawing and painting exercises that aid in the growth of the senses: touch, balance, self-movement and a feeling of well-being.Neurological research tells us the importance of these senses for healthy brain development in children.
