Yoga Space Yoga, as currently practiced in the Western world, focuses on a series of postures, or asanas, that gently stretch the body, breathing exercises, relaxation, and in some cases, meditation. These things are combined into a 90-minute session usually, and they are done in order to improve one's health and sense of highly-being. Why should I start practicing yoga?

I just had my FIRST yoga practice since March 14, 2020. Thanks to Yoga Space, I was able to not just come back to my beloved practice (before the pandemic for 7 years, I practiced yoga three times a week), but also reunite with one of the BEST teachers in Toronto, Nicky Poole. Last Thursday, June 9th I visited Yoga Space's new location. Before I entered the place, from the outside, I could not stop thinking how charming it looks.

Then I stepped inside, and I felt like I had entered a good friend's loving, warm, cozy home. The studio I practiced in was nothing short of beautiful, with big windows letting in the sunshine. And what a great neighbourhood - in the heart of 'Little Italy'. As I left my yoga practice, I saw the owner walking inside with flowers she had picked from outside, and then arranging them in to a vase.

And I though to myself, this lady has no idea how she is blessing people by re-opening this yoga studio to so many of us who were not able to practice yoga with teachers (Like Nicky) who have profoundly impacted us, not just by teaching yoga, but teaching life! Highly recommend this glorious little gem of a yoga studio in the heart of 'Little Italy'!

I had the opportunity to try a few classes at Yogaspace's new location in Little Italy. (They have a great opening special right now). The space is airy and relaxing. They offer a variety of classes, including regularly scheduled prenatal yoga! I look forward to my next class, would recommend this studio.

I went into yoga teacher training (YTT) @yogaspaceto as a fitness coach wanting to boost my knowledge and improve how I teach one of my specialties: flexibility. Thanks to the wealth of expertise, precise teaching methodology and unmatched enthusiasm of staff members like Kathryn, Hali and Jessica I have ended wanting to be a yogi for life. In particular, the knowledge of anatomy and functionality was so high I found myself endlessly making connections with exercise principles, but understanding them better in a much more accessible and vivid way.

In our world, even when we rest or vacation, we are plugged in. YTT at Yogaspace shows you, first and foremost, how to easily create a sanctuary from your mat. I'm happily able to return to my self-practice daily, something that simply would not last in the past for an anxious busybody like myself. In addition, the calibre of supplementary workshops offered throughout the training is next to none. Topics ranged from cultural appropriation & yoga to using your voice to project and articulate better as a teacher.

If you are an artist, a fitness coach or have practiced yoga and curious about teaching, I wholeheartedly believe in this studios abilities. Reach out to any of the team. In fact, the teachers are so accessible and willing to discuss anything - something we often hear, but here it's really true!

I completed the Summer Yoga Teacher Training (Module 1 &2- July/ August) and it was a great experience! Module 1 was conducted online, which I actually found convenient doing it from home. Hali's philosophy's class was absolutely wonderful, and she easily allows for the opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversations. Module 2 was held in studio.

The instructors were able to create a warm and welcoming environment while adhering to all safety protocols (COVID restrictions and precautions). Overall- I had a lovely training practice!

Marinella who teaches on Saturdays and is an osteopath too, teaches the BEST class in the city as it's not your usual 100x downward dog in an hour. It's full of so many variations and poses and stretches that work your whole body and mind, and she's so lovely and entertaining. I've been doing her classes since day 1 and it's hard for me to attend anyone else's, thankfully I can now do them on Zoom. Thank you Marinella and Yogaspace for bringing me Saturday mornings full of love and yoga.

I went to Yogaspace for their prenatal yoga classes when i moved into the neighbourhood around the 8th month of my pregnancy. Leasa and Sasha were both great prenatal yoga instructors. Going to their classes twice a week was the best thing i did during my pregnancy. It relaxed me mentally and physically and prepared me for the big day. The studio is also very nice, clean, safe, well decorated and ran by really nice and caring staff. I highly recommend it.

I went to a pilates-yoga fusion class at this studio taught by Andrea and it was genuinely one of the best classes I've attended in the city. The space is beautiful and Andrea's teaching was awesome - she gave lots of guidance for adjustments to make each pose more or less challenging based on each attendee's comfort level. It was my first time attending the class but I thought the pace was great.

It was challenging but easy to keep up, and I appreciated her pointing out where we should be feeling each stretch so that we could adjust if needed. I would definitely return to a class at Yogaspace taught by Andrea, and would recommend to anyone who's looking to incorporate yoga into their routine

Such a beautiful space with even more beautiful teachers and staff! Clearly there is a reason Yogaspace has been around for so long and has such a great reputation around the city. The practice spaces are bright and spacious, there is a ton of props available, and the class schedule accommodates all types of schedules and practice levels. Also some of the best teachers in the city - Kathryn, Hali, Fiona, Yosh, Susan, Rachel. the list goes on!

There is no doubt you will be able to find classes that will perfectly match your own yoga practice. It's an amazingly accepting and supportive place - which is a special thing in a city so big!

Yogaspace is the last studio review in my prenatal journey, since I popped a few weeks later (eeep!), and I'm so happy I was able to squeeze it in considering this is one of the oldest yoga studios in Toronto, and THE oldest pre and postnatal program in Toronto. I gave points for it being easily located in Ossington, having over 60 classes per week and having prices that are in line with the lowest I've seen in Toronto, but the crammed spaces, lack of lockers and hour and a half prenatal class that landed somewhere between a restorative class and a flow class but without really letting us get our groove in either, left me wanting a bit more.

A welcoming, low-key yoga & Pilates studio, Yoga Space is just west of Franklin's pub, off Route 1 on Gallatin Street. I've been a regular at Yoga Space for the past year, mostly taking classes with Julia. Of the various yoga instructors I've had over the years - most of whom I've enjoyed very much - Julia is my favorite! Her classes are a great blend, beginning with a brief mindfulness meditation, moving into over an hour of flow (with soft music), and of course concluding with a guided savasana.

While it's mostly beginner-to-intermediate level, there are always a few more experienced/flexible/strong students in the class and there are always poses that are challenging enough to keep them interested - without totally intimidating the rest of us. What I like best about this place is the neighborly feel of it. It doesn't have the spiritual pretentiousness that one can find at other studios.

Most of the students and instructors live in the area (Hyattsville and surrounding communities); several of them walk to class. If you seek a yoga practice that is free of the trendy/glam hipster crowd, I recommend Yoga Space.

I have been so grateful to have a local yoga studio in Hyattsville. Newbies are welcome. The class sizes are small, so you get lots of attention so you can improve. There are classes for all different levels of experience, and the instructors tell you how to make your poses more challenging or a little easier depending on what's right for you.

I really like my instructor, Meghan Mullen. She is very knowledgable and sensitive to the individual needs of her students. I've seen her adjust our workout for the evening based on the mood the class seems to be in. I am not looking for an intense workout, so I am in the beginner/mixed level class. I find I actually am getting a workout and my posture is improving, but I leave the class feeling relaxed, not exhausted. Yoga Space is the highlight of my week, every week.

Your first class is free, so you have nothing to lose. At $10 per 1.5 hour session, the value is unbeatable. You pay the individual instructors so you can bring cash or write a check. No credit cards. There is street parking.

Review of Pilates classes - Thank goodness this place is here. Without it I would have continued my slide into flabbitude and be making regular trips to buy new pants and I hate shopping. At first, I wasn't crazy about it. Or rather my snoozing core muscles were like "Jules. Seriously, WTF? We're trying to sleep under this nice warm layer of doughnuts and beer you've draped over us." And neither teacher I've had there is inattentive, meaning you can't get away with slacking.

Now I absolutely hate to miss this class (although I still think Herr Pilates was a sadist). The weekend schedule is convenient and it is near Yes! market so you can get a healthy snack after class.
