Chinese medicine is a safe, time-tested, holistic healthcare system that has been in practice in China for over 3000 years. This natural medicine was developed over time through observation of the interactions of the mind, body and environment. The foundation of Chinese medicine is based on the concepts of qi, yin and yang.
Acupuncture focuses on balancing the energy, or Qi (pronounced chee), in the meridians on the body. These meridians can become out of balance due to the many stresses in our lives: work, diet, emotional and environmental. When the energy is not balanced, then symptoms will start to occur which may lead to disease.
Chinese Herbal Medicine is comprised of over 4000 plants, minerals, and animal products. Based on the unique presentation of symptoms a custom designed formula of anywhere from 12 to 20 ingredients may be prescribed. These combinations have been shown and documented over the 3000 year history of Chinese medicine to enhance the effectiveness of the herbs, while eliminating most possible side effects. Used in combination with acupuncture, or alone, Chinese Herbal medicine is particularly effective in treating a range of internal disorders.

I sought help from Susan Shaver at Watertown Acupuncture after enduring severe Plantar Fasciitis and a rotator cuff injury for over a year. Until then, I had been running 6 miles, 3 times a week and participating in boot camp style workouts. With my injuries, I was unable to run and lift weights, and my regime came to a complete halt. The the day of my first appointment I had trouble walking from my car to the front door.

I am happy to report that after 7 visits, I am running again (already up to 3 miles!) and I have resumed strength training. The pain in my shoulder is completely gone. Susan accomplished more in 2 months than I had experienced after a full year of physical therapy. Acupuncture was a last resort for me. I was a skeptical, but it worked wonders for me. I am so glad I did it!
