Wisdom Traditions Acupuncture We know that each individual seeking help has different needs. Some like to talk, while others prefer to let their body's signs and symptoms speak for them. Some want to know more about lifestyle changes that can benefit their long term health, while others don't care to have that be part of the conversation. We consider each person to be the 'expert' on themselves, and believe that our job is to partner with you to learn more about the bigger picture of what is going on, and how you can achieve wellness and freedom from suffering.

We've successfully partnered with many patients to treat a variety of conditions from pain, digestive issues or fertility to depression and anxiety. People come seeking help with matters of physical health, emotional upset, stress, and even existential questioning. As whole person medicine, acupuncture addresses all of these issues together.

We love watching people blossom and flourish through acupuncture treatment. From being freed from pain, anxiety, or depression to discovering how best to tend themselves for optimal health, each patient finds greater ease in life. We consider it an honor to be allowed to be part of this healing process.

Wisdom Traditions Acupuncture is the acupuncture practice of Marni Adhikari, M.Ac, L.Ac, Dipl. Ac. Her office is located in Essex Junction, Vermont. For more information on our location, take a look at our Map and Directions page. Marni has been in practice since 2009 and is a licensed and board certified acupuncturist.
Going for acupuncture treatment is akin to changing the oil in your car. The needles help your body to keep everything in the intricate system that is 'you' moving smoothly. Some common signs of buildup or stagnation in your system include pain, agitation, and mood swings. Acupuncture clears this stagnation out of your body, and helps your whole system to work at its highest capacity.
Acupuncture does not hurt. If you've never had acupuncture before, then the top barrier to getting treatment is probably concern about or fear of needles. Unlike your experiences at the doctor's office getting shots or having blood drawn, acupuncture is not painful and is actually very relaxing. One reason for this is that acupuncture needles are extremely thin, approximately the size of a few human hairs, and are solid. In fact, about 26 acupuncture needles can fit in the hole in one hypodermic needle.
The cost of the combined initial diagnostic session and first acupuncture treatment is $140. The cost of all follow-up acupuncture treatments is $90.* If you feel that this is the case for you, please contact us and we can discuss options for making treatment affordable. We do accept insurance. Marni Adhikari, L.Ac is an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna. Other insurance policies that cover acupuncture are also accepted, as long as there is no in-network practitioner requirement.
Your first acupuncture appointment will last about two hours and will consist of a health history and your first treatment. During this time the main focus is to get to know you and to understand your health concerns so that Marni can focus treatment on your needs. The first hour will be spent discussing your symptoms, how your symptoms effect your life, and your health history. After this, Marni will listen to your pulse. Pulse taking is one of the main diagnostic tools for acupuncture practitioners.

Though the acupuncture treatments that I did with Marni were not successful in addressing my primary concern, I would still recommend her highly. She is a very good listener and asks thoughtful questions. She was honest about her ability to help with my issue and didn't try to "string me along" to get more business. I will definitely try working with Marni again if another opportunity arises.

After watching my struggle and obvious pain at performing some of the easy yoga maneuvers that were impossible for me to do. A previous patient of Marni's strongly advised I seek her services. The pain on trying to extend my knee beyond my limited range of motion was the result of a knee replacement, followed, just 3 months later, by fracturing my femur on the same leg.

The fractured femur was repaired by open reduction, a plate screws and wires, causing what appeared to be a permanently swollen knee and a bakers cyst on the back of the same knee. Both resulting in my inability to bend my knee sufficiently, not only for some of the Yoga routines, but also interfering with the agility I needed to confidently participate in other activities.

After participating in all the Physical Therapy insurance would cover, water aerobics, and yoga, with minimal improvement, I thankfully discovered Marni. Approximately 6 months of weekly visits later, I have noticed a tremendous difference. The swelling of the knee has reduced, the bakers cyst is gone and my range of motion has increased with minimal discomfort. Acupuncture works. The meridians are an amazing part of our body and Marni Adhikari knows how to activate them. Thank you, Marni

Full disclosure: I scheduled two appointments with Marni while I was on vacation. If I lived local, she would definitely be part of my pain care management plan. I wanted to get back into the routine of regular acupuncture treatments, and Marni took me on knowing we had a short amount of time. (I have since found an equally adept acupuncturist near home, so I am continuing with my care.)

I found Marni to be friendly, professional, thorough, and treated me with dignity.

She thoroughly inventoried/surveyed my issues, and made our brief time very effective. Her office is small; however, the private room where she treats clients is very warm and inviting, and a lot of thought was put into making the room as comfortable as possible. Her office also was super convenient to The Inn at Essex, which is where I was spending the week, so this added to the overall goal I had to make my vacation as restful and restorative as possible. I definitely plan on scheduling time with her the next time I am visiting the area.

I've studied Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture which I felt might make me a challenging patient since I love to ask questions about what meridians she is using, etc. I've been using acupuncture as part of my healthcare management team for over 30 years and I know what works best for me. Marni is kind, compassionate and so patient with me! I truly appreciate her expertise and judgment on aiding me on my path to staying healthy.

Marni is a great practitioner -- she listens well and seems to operate from a balance of solid five elements education and on point (pun intended) healing intuition.

Finding an alternative to feeling better has been wonderful. Marni listens and treats in the most calming, caring way. It's the one appointment I look forward to. I feel so grounded after our time together. Wish I had started this path years ago.

Marni is a very well versed practitioner. She listens well and offers a whole person care approach to her practice. She caters to my individual needs from short term (what am I feeling today/this week) to longer term (what past issues/ongoing problems). She offers a wealth of insight into Eastern Medicine and is an authentic healer. I have had several treatments from Marni and have quickly experienced the health benefits of acupuncture. I recommend her very highly!

When I first met Marni, I had been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease causing chronic fatigue and GI issues, in addition I had been suffering from migraine headaches for years, as well as mood swings/depression, and severe asthma due to even more severe allergies. I was on six different medications and barely making it through my day. Working with Marni, my energy level increased, my GI issues no longer governed my activities; migraines, mood swings and depression were all a thing of the past.

Those six medications went down to one, with the ability to engage in a great cardio workout. I felt great! Recently, I had what felt like a regression. I was becoming more dependent on medications to barely manage my asthma and allergies, getting headaches, feeling down and tired. It was through Marni's excellent diagnostic skills that she completed a treatment that brought me back!

I still cannot find words to explain the immediate transformation I experienced. I literally felt lighter and the symptoms that plagued me practically disappeared. I look forward to every visit!

Marni is one of the most sincere, caring, and knowledgable practitioners I have ever dealt with. She demonstrated a profound interest in getting to know my concerns and all of the details surrounding them. With her holistic approach, she was able to make connections among my symptoms that neither I nor my doctor had made. She addressed issues that proved to lie at the heart of my problem. I cannot express how upset I was that my husband was relocated to another state causing me to no longer be seen by Marni. She is exceptional!

I am a late 40's male who is pretty healthy and who excercises frequently but aging and overweight nonetheless. I met Marni a few months ago while searching for relief through accupunture from chronic chest congestion. I was often wheezy and noisy as I would breathe. I felt a significant difference after just one visit. I continued for several more visits and Marni would inquire and then targeted other issues that she detected including metabolism issues and overall health.

In addition to the accupuncture, she prescribed chinese herbs and made several suggestions for lifestyle changes that support the issues unique to me. I feel great now and would recommend accupuncture by Marni to anyone. She has a gentle, inquiring, nurturing, manner. She has truly found her path to make a difference for others... especially me.

I discovered Five-Element Acupuncture approximately 10 years ago while living in Maryland. My journey began as a gift certificate from my bother to deal with a chronically sore neck. I was very skeptical at first, but eventually realized many unexpected benefits beyond relieved neck pain, which then evolved into a spiritual curiosity over the next 2-3 years.

This led to reading countless books on this special medicine. Approximately 1 year ago, and only after moving to Vermont in 2013, I sensed something missing in my life. I felt disconnected when I sought harmony, anxious and unsure about things with which I had no control. My back was hurting, I had little energy, and was generally unhappy. I knew that reconnecting with a practitioner devoted to Five-Element Acupuncture was what I needed.

After a lot of research, I found Marni.

Marni and I had a very thorough initial consultation and subsequent treatment, and since then my journey with this powerful medicine has renewed, and I’m so grateful. Marni is a critical part of my mind/body/spiritual connection whether she realizes it or not. Every treatment is different in its own way, but immediately profound and effective. Life’s speed dial is turned down so I can take in nature for all its beauty, let work related stress sort itself out, and be comfortable moving forward in life without all the answers. I don’t need all the answers anymore.
My husband and I came to Marni after being told by a very well-respected doctor that conceiving a child naturally would be next to
impossible for us due to my husband's low sperm count. We decided to explore acupuncture and see if we could improve our situation naturally
without resorting to expensive and invasive fertility treatments. We both began seeing Marni regularly and gradually began to get more in touch with our bodies and more conscious of the lifestyle choices we
were making that were affecting our fertility. Marni's treatments had an almost immediate effect on our general well-being.

We both began to sleep better and felt more balanced and relaxed in our daily lives. Her counseling and recommendations with respect to nutrition and Chinese herbs was also tremendously helpful. After just a few months of acupuncture treatment and lifestyle changes, my husband's urologist noted an incredible improvement in his count. We were amazed at how acupuncture and smarter choices could have such a significant impact on his fertility.

I am thrilled to report that after trying to conceive for almost two years, we were able to do so naturally only a few months after our first treatments. I would recommend acupuncture treatments with Marni to any couple that is struggling to conceive. I firmly believe that her intervention helped us a great deal!
